St. John’s University is seeking a dynamic Learning Specialist to support students with disabilities. This full-time, in-person role collaborates with the Office of Disability Services to ensure accommodations and inclusive practices across the university.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in special education, psychology, counseling, or related fields.
• Experience with individuals with disabilities in an educational or support services setting.
• Knowledge of disability laws including ADA and Section 504.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
• Experience with assistive technologies and adaptive learning strategies.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA regulations.
• Experience collaborating with others and consulting with teams.

Responsibilities

• Review diagnostic information and determine ADA/504 eligibility.
• Determine accommodations or course substitutions; liaise with faculty and staff.
• Develop customized accommodations with students based on assessments.
• Coordinate and implement accommodations (extended time, note-taking, accessible materials).
• Provide ongoing support for students to implement accommodations effectively.
• Develop and deliver workshops on learning disabilities and assistive tech.
• Collaborate with faculty to promote awareness of diverse learning needs.
