Job summary

The Dodge YMCA in Brooklyn, NY, is seeking an Inclusion Specialist to support an Afterschool program. This part-time/regular role focuses on creating a welcoming, accessible environment for youth with diverse abilities and helping families access needed supports.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in a related field, has at least two years of experience with children under 13, and is familiar with social-emotional learning and trauma-informed approaches.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field required; ME/MSW preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience with children under 13.
• Current Pediatrics CPR or First Aid certification preferred.
• Ability to speak multiple languages preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Actively welcome and develop programming in partnership with the Content Specialist to serve a diverse group of participants.
• Develop and implement inclusive outreach strategies to connect with individuals facing barriers to participation.
• Foster a safe, welcoming environment where all youth and families feel valued and heard.
• Maintain student behavioral support plans and logs.
• Support the implementation of systems for tracking student behaviors and collaborate with staff, caregivers, and teachers to identify behavior support techniques.
• Partner with the Program Director to ensure social-emotional development is infused into programming.
• Guide staff on how to implement behavioral strategies in the learning environment.
• Communicate with DYCD about needs for specialized supports beyond the program’s capacity.
• Ensure staff are familiar with mental health support needs and trauma-informed programming.
• Provide information about resources and referrals for mental health services.
• Respond to time-sensitive mental health needs, such as suicide prevention and grief.
• Implement lessons on providing support for participants with special needs; conduct technical assistance with YMCA staff.
• If applicable, supervise social work interns to support participant needs.
• Adhere to all relevant standards and regulations.
