Job summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota is seeking an Inclusion Specialist for the KIDSTOP program at Discovery Boys & Girls Club in Waite Park, MN. This part-time, non-exempt role supports members with higher needs and helps maintain a positive, inclusive environment.

You will work closely with the Senior Site Manager and Site Manager to implement behavior plans, provide individualized support, and participate in team meetings while upholding club policies and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience with higher needs children preferred (3–6 months).
  • Ability to relate to KIDSTOP members and communicate with parents.
  • Familiarity with KIDSTOP policies; follow them.
  • Must pass a Department of Human Services background check.

Responsibilities

  • Model appropriate behavior for members with special needs.
  • Implement behavior management tailored to each member.
  • Identify behavior triggers and de-escalate situations professionally.
  • Provide group or one-on-one assistance as needed.
  • Assist with toileting and hygiene issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, staff, volunteers, and members.
  • Participate in staff meetings and maintain equipment & facilities.
  • Care and maintenance of program equipment and supplies.

Job Description Summary

Provide support to members with higher needs to ensure their success in the KIDSTOP program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure that members with special needs or behavior issues are modeling appropriate behavior that is in line with KIDSTOP expectations.
  • Ability to implement behavior management skills that are appropriate for each individual member under supervision.
  • Ability to identify behavior triggers and effectively de-escalate destructive situations in a professional and respectful manner.
  • May assist special needs individuals in a group setting or provide one-on-one assistance/programming.
  • Be able to appropriately handle toileting and hygiene issues as needed
  • Participate as an active, positive team member with supervisors, other staff, volunteers, and members at all times by communicating effectively.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings
  • Responsible for care and maintenance of program equipment, supplies and facilities, including clean up and proper use.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to relate well with members in KIDSTOP group environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and mobile when supervising special needs members.
  • Is aware of KIDSTOP policies and will abide by them.
  • Ability to remain calm and positive in stressful situations.
  • Ability to pass a Department of Human Services background check.
Education & Work Experience

Experience: Three to six months of experience working with higher needs children preferred.

Fundamental Relationships

Maintains regular, daily interaction with youth and supervisors to provide support, share information, and reinforce program goals. Builds and sustains positive relationships with school staff, member families, and the broader community, reflecting the values and mission of the organization.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Physical Demands
  • Regularly: walking, bending, reaching, stretching, hearing, seeing, repetitive hand motions.
  • Occasionally: lifting up to 50 lbs. and stationary work.
Equipment Use
  • Regularly: phones and two-way radios.
  • Occasionally: kitchen equipment, hand tools, Audio Visual equipment, copy/scan machines, and hand tools
Work Environment
  • Regularly: indoor and outdoor work in varied weather conditions, team and independent work, noisy conditions.
  • Occasionally: odors, varied lighting, small and/or enclosed spaces.
Mental Demands
  • Regularly: managing workplace stressors and handling belligerent behaviors.
Substance Exposure & Protective Equipment
  • Occasionally: exposure to chemicals or body fluids, use of protective gear (gloves, masks, etc.).
