Lewis & Clark College seeks an Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement (IME) Assistant Director to support daily IME operations and mentor student leaders. The role focuses on increasing access, belonging, and engagement around inclusion for a diverse student body.
The ideal candidate has experience in creating inclusive programs, collaborating with campus partners, and supporting student persistence and belonging in higher education. This is a part-time, 0.83 FTE position with benefits.

The Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement (IME) Assistant Director is primarily responsible for supporting the daily operations of IME. This includes coordinating student-centered programs and mentoring student leaders. The ideal candidate should have experience in creating more access, belonging, and engagement around inclusion. This individual should have a passion for working with students in a higher education setting. The IME Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement.
Program Leadership and Development Leads IME programs with the IME Director, including programming such as the Great Expectations Mentorship (GEM) program, heritage and history Month programming, first-generation programming, and supporting our student-athletes.
Develop and implement programming to create more access, belonging, and student engagement for all students.
Design, plan, and implement major programs, events, and initiatives related to multiculturalism and diversity.
Collaborate with campus partners to organize campus-wide events, including MLK Day, student leadership training, and heritage and history month programming.
Support program assessment, using data to inform retention strategies for campus student populations.
Student Support and Engagement Mentor and advise student staff, GEM Mentors, and student organization leaders. Provide individualized support, advocacy, and referrals to campus resources that promote student persistence and belonging. Co-facilitate leadership training and programming to enhance student engagement across campus.
Administrative and Operational Support Support the daily operations of the IME office space, including social media, website management, purchasing supplies, and managing email communications. Assist in managing office logistics and handle administrative duties for program execution. Evaluate office activities and provide direction in the absence of the Director, prioritizing departmental and divisional needs.
Collaboration and Representation Represent IME in divisional and campus-wide committees, ensuring alignment with the office’s mission and goals. Foster strong relationships with internal and external campus stakeholders to advance diversity and inclusion initiatives. Collaborate with local Portland-Metro area organizations to help create experiences for departmental needs.
Utilize Google Workspace (Drive, Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Forms) for effective communication, organization, and data management. Maintain proficiency in online research, website navigation, and social media tools to enhance outreach and engagement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & BEHAVIORS Ability to take initiative and work independently, demonstrating autonomy in managing complex tasks and responsibilities Experience in developing and implementing initiatives that create more access, belonging, and student engagement around diversity, inclusion, and social justice initiatives. Experience working with or established relationships within the Portland community and local organizations. Strong commitment to promoting inclusion and fostering a sense of belonging in the workplace and campus community. Excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships with diverse communities, including students, staff, and faculty. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Excellent attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills, ensuring high-quality execution of programs and initiatives. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage competing deadlines. Excellent mentorship and leadership abilities, with a demonstrated commitment to guiding and supporting student leaders and staff. Excellent crisis management skills, providing effective support during challenging situations while maintaining composure and professionalism. Proficient in using Google Workspace (Drive, Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Forms) for communication, data organization, and project management.
Bachelor’s degree. One year of experience in creating access, belonging, and engagement. One year of professional experience working with people who have experienced economic, social, or other barriers or those who come from economically or socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
A Master’s in higher education or a related field, or at least 2 years of experience working in higher education Experience in designing, planning, and implementing major programs, events, and initiatives related to multiculturalism and diversity. Experience working with or established relationships within the Portland community and local organizations. Experience working in higher education. Two years of professional experience working with people who have experienced economic, social, or other barriers or those who come from economically or socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
