In-School Music Teacher – School Year – 2025-2026

Experience:

2+ years of experience working with elementary school students (ages 4 to 11 years old) in a classroom setting and strong classroom management skills

The Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) Music4Schools Program is seeking an energetic and dependable Elementary Music Teacher to make a difference in the community, serving elementary school/schools in San Mateo, Santa Clara or Half Moon Bay. The ideal candidate will possess an unwavering commitment to teaching music effectively and comprehensively while inspiring and motivating students to develop a love of music. Professional development and training is provided.

This position is a part-time teaching music instructor position with a class schedule between Monday and Friday, serving our partner schools. Location: Santa Clara County/San Mateo County, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Teach a curriculum-based music program to children in a public elementary school setting (Faculty will have online access to curriculum and lesson planning)
  • Attend faculty meetings and trainings to enhance faculty and curriculum development (Mentor program for new teachers)
  • Develop lesson plans following CSMA curriculum and California State Standards.
  • Create a fun and enjoyable learning environment while giving students a solid music foundation
  • Prepare students for performances or open classes while providing a fun and creative environment
  • Communicate regularly with on-site school staff and CSMA

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Education or Music degree preferred (not required), or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience working with elementary school students (ages 4 to 11 years old) in a classroom setting and strong classroom management skills
  • Voice, Ukulele, Guitar, or Piano experience in addition to musical specialty, preferred
  • Ability to teach multiple disciplines and styles of music desired, particularly general music
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Competent computer skills and some familiarity with video conferencing software, Zoom, G-Suite, and MS Office

Physical Demands:

  • Must have reliable mode of transportation to travel from school to school to teach
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
