Job summary

Mason Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant to support students with diverse needs in an in-person classroom. This role involves one-on-one or small-group instruction, data collection, and implementing intervention strategies under the direction of certified staff.

The position runs Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, 35 hours weekly during August–June, with a wage of $15.81 per hour. Candidates should have a high school diploma, experience with children, and the ability to

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working with children.
• Ability to build rapport with students.
• Ability to work cooperatively with teachers and students.

Responsibilities

• Redirect behavior before it escalates using proactive strategies and consistent routines.
• Follow and support implementation of an established behavior plan (including documentation).
• Support transitions and student regulation (structured movement, calming strategies, reinforcement systems).
• Help staff maintain a calm and positive learning environment with de-escalation supports, supervision, and timely communication.
