Job summary

Atlanta Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to support teachers in delivering instruction and behavioral support for students with disabilities in the classroom and community.

The role requires on-site work with students, data collection, and facilitation of instructional materials, meal distribution, and safety procedures, with emphasis on collaboration with teachers, parents, and staff.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of childhood growth and development.
• Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise children.
• General knowledge of academic subjects relevant to position assignment.
• Computer proficiency and ability to work effectively in an in-person learning environment.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner.
• Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between various in-person learning environments.
• Knowledge of school safety & security procedures.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Supports teachers in meeting instructional, educational, behavioral, and social emotional needs of students with disabilities (in-person).
• Provides small group and/or individualized instruction based on IEP and lesson plans.
• Collects instructional and behavioral data for each student.
• Implements Behavior Intervention Plans for students with disabilities.
• Communicates proactively with teachers about student issues and parent conversations.
• Responds to emails and calls from school leaders and teachers promptly.
• Assists during standardized testing to support state and local processes.
• Prepares daily lesson plan materials and copies of materials for students.
• Distributes food, supplies, materials and equipment, including technology.
• Monitors student movement within the building between classrooms, learning areas and cafeteria.
• Assists with classroom and cafeteria cleanup and sanitation duties.
• Supports administrators and staff with orderly transitions of students.
• Assists students with physical needs including feeding, toileting, lifting, and mobility.
• Assists with healthcare procedures including hygiene and medications as needed.
• Assists students with assistive technology devices and communication devices.
• Engages in professional learning opportunities in-person and trains volunteers.
• Maintains prompt, regular attendance on-site during regular hours.
• Performs other duties as assigned by administrators.
