Job summary

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan seeks a licensed Virginia in-house Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney to defend claims before hearing locations, primarily in and around the Virginia area, under the direction of the General Counsel. This role includes research, depositions, witness consultations, and negotiations for settlements.

The attorney will provide leadership on major company projects and collaborate with insureds, legal assistants, and business groups to assess risk and strategy.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor Degree and admission to the bar (in good standing) required.
• Minimum of four (4) years of legal experience, with two years in the insurance industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Apply legal principles based on experience with minimal supervision.
• Draft and/or dictate legal correspondence and memorandums.
• Conduct legal research and provide timely opinions.
• Attend depositions and consult with witnesses and personnel.
• Participate in negotiations on behalf of the company and policyholders.
• Provide leadership on major company projects as necessary.
