Summary

Workers Compensation Defense Attorney needed for an in‑house litigation position under the direction of the General Counsel. The attorney will defend litigated Workers’ Compensation claims before hearing locations throughout Virginia and surrounding areas, conduct research, examine records, investigate, attend depositions, consult with witnesses, insureds, legal assistants, and company personnel, and participate in negotiations and settlements. The position also provides leadership and expertise on major company projects.

The role includes state‑specific legal representation before courts, arbitration panels, or administrative bodies, preparing pleadings, motions, memorandums, trial briefs, and appeals. The attorney provides legal counsel, prepares and reviews documents, and advises company and employees.

Responsibilities

• Apply legal principles and skills based on experience.
• Evaluate and select appropriate legal techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment.
• Draft and/or dictate legal correspondence, memorandums, and work with minimal supervision.
• Conduct legal research and provide timely legal opinions and advice upon reasonable demand.

Qualifications

Working Conditions

Compensation

Estimated range: $121,500 – $203,400, depending on internal equity, skill, experience, location, and market.
