Job summary

AbbVie is seeking an in-house Senior Counsel for the Patent Prosecution group, part of the Intellectual Property, Transactions, and Innovation legal team. The role supports immunology products and candidates and offers a hybrid work model from Waltham, MA, North Chicago, IL, or South San Francisco, CA.

You will develop and implement IP strategies, file and prosecute patents worldwide, and work with cross-functional teams to maximize AbbVie's competitive position.

Qualifications

JD from an accredited law school with USPTO registration.
5+ years of patent prosecution experience in law firms or life sciences settings.
Background in small molecule or biologics tech relevant to pharma patents.
Strong analytical, communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

Maximize AbbVie's competitive position through IP strategy development.
Advise R&D and business teams on IP matters across projects.
Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide with internal/externally managed counsel.
Challenge and defend patents in post-grant proceedings and related actions.
Conduct prior art searches and support business development due diligence.
