Job summary

The University of Delaware Office of General Counsel seeks an Associate General Counsel for Labor and Employment to advise and represent the University on labor and employment matters, reporting to the Deputy General Counsel. The role requires handling matters end-to-end with minimal supervision and contributing to process improvements.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with five years of labor and employment practice.
• Experience in unionized environments preferred.
• Bar admission in good standing in at least one state.

Responsibilities

• Provide risk-based guidance on compliance with employment laws including leave, discrimination, wage and hour issues.
• Counsel HR and management on discipline, investigations, and employee separations.
• Advise on restructurings, bargaining, and notice obligations.
• Represent or oversee matters before EEOC, DOL, OSHA, NLRB, and courts.
• Oversee responses to charges, subpoenas, and agency investigations.
• Support labor relations, including bargaining strategy and contract interpretation.
• Draft and update employment policies and guidance for unionized and non-unionized staff.
