Job summary

Thrive Education Partners is seeking an exceptional ISEE prep tutor to support a 5th-grade student preparing for independent-school admissions. The tutor will assess starting points, identify gaps, and develop a targeted plan to strengthen verbal, quantitative, reading, and math skills while teaching effective strategies.

The role is part-time, in-home in Cary, NC, with weekly tutoring sessions and ongoing opportunities to work with Thrive families. Start date is flexible within 1–2 weeks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, English, Mathematics, or related field.
• Experience with ISEE preparation or similar standardized admissions testing.
• Experience tutoring upper-elementary or middle school students.
• Strong knowledge of reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and mathematics at upper-elementary/middle school levels.
• Ability to use diagnostic or practice-test results to tailor instruction.
• Familiarity with independent-school admissions testing is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized ISEE preparation for a 5th-grade student.
• Assess starting point using practice tests, diagnostic results, school information, and observations.
• Develop a targeted preparation plan based on strengths, gaps, and timeline.
• Provide focused instruction across Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Mathematics Achievement.
• Teach age-appropriate test-taking strategies, pacing, and problem solving.
• Monitor progress with practice tests and adjust instruction as needed.
• Build a strong, engaging, and appropriately challenging tutoring environment.
• Communicate with parents and Thrive's educational team about progress and priorities.
