Job summary

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is hiring veterinarians to provide in-home pet hospice, palliative care, and compassionate euthanasia across the Washington area. This role offers professional autonomy, flexible scheduling, and the option to work outside a traditional clinic environment.

We emphasize compassionate end-of-life care, strong family communication, and staying connected with our veterinary and operations teams while delivering personalized service in clients' homes.

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree from an accredited program.
• Active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be provided.
• Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to travel between appointments.
• Comfortable working independently as a mobile veterinarian with Heartstrings support.
• Empathetic, professional communication during end-of-life conversations.
• Willingness to participate in rotational weekend scheduling.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, and euthanasia within your assigned service area.
• Travel independently to scheduled appointments and work in a mobile veterinary care environment.
• Perform physical examinations, clinical assessments, medication administration, sedation, euthanasia, and other services as allowed.
• Educate families through quality-of-life decisions and end-of-life care options with empathy.
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for each encounter.
• Communicate professionally with families, Heartstrings team, and referring veterinarians.
• Safely handle and move companion animals during in-home appointments.
• Work with professionalism, autonomy, and sound medical judgment in the field.
