Job summary

Volunteers of America Mid-States is seeking a Direct Support Professional II – In-Home Support (DSP II) in New Albany, Indiana. You will provide person-centered care, implement support plans, and help individuals achieve independence and community inclusion.

The role involves direct care, transportation support, documentation, and collaboration with the Non-Residential Service Coordinator to promote health, safety, and rights of individuals served.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Reliable transportation with proof of insurance.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English.
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with individuals served and their families.
• Compassion, patience, professionalism, and reliability.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification and Medication Administration Certification.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the comfort, health, and safety of individuals served.
• Assist with medical, nutritional, and personal care needs.
• Implement individual support plans, service goals, and behavior support plans.
• Provide emotional support and use therapeutic behavioral reinforcement techniques.
• Encourage participation in community-based activities that promote social inclusion and independence.
• Provide transportation to appointments, recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and community events.
• Assist with the development of independent living, communication, social, and self-advocacy skills.
• Support individuals with housekeeping, meal preparation, shopping, budgeting, and laundry.
• Provide medication reminders and documentation in accordance with regulations and agency policies.
• Assist individuals with money management and purchases.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and behavioral situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
• Attend required training programs and mandatory staff meetings.
• Follow agency policies related to incident reporting, abuse prevention, confidentiality, and infection control.
• Complete all required daily, weekly, and monthly documentation accurately and timely.
• Communicate individual progress with supervisors and team members.
• Monitor and document progress toward individual goals and objectives.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, case managers, guardians, family members, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and agency requirements.
• Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration certifications.
