Job summary

Volunteers of America Mid-States is seeking a Direct Support Professional II – In Home Support (DSP II) in New Albany, Indiana. You will provide person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them achieve independence and community inclusion.

Responsibilities include direct care, daily living assistance, documentation, and collaboration with the care team to implement individualized plans and behavior supports, while ensuring safety and dignity

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Available to lift at least 25 pounds.
• Excellent reading, writing and English comprehension.
• Computer literacy required.
• Able to obtain CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration Certifications.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the comfort, health, and safety of individuals served.
• Assist with medical, nutritional, and personal care needs.
• Implement individual support plans, service goals, and behavior support plans.
• Provide emotional support and use therapeutic behavioral reinforcement techniques.
• Encourage participation in community-based activities that promote social inclusion and independence.
• Provide transportation to appointments, recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and community events.
• Assist with the development of independent living, communication, social, and self-advocacy skills.
• Support individuals with housekeeping, meal preparation, shopping, budgeting, and laundry.
• Provide medication reminders and documentation in accordance with regulations and agency policies.
• Assist individuals with money management and purchases.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and behavioral situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
