Job summary

South Orange seeks a Special Education Teacher – In Class Resource for Marshall Elementary School in September 2026. This 1.0 FTE position requires experience in special education classrooms and teamwork with academic teachers.

Salary progresses with degree level and credentials as outlined by the district. The candidate should hold NJ Teacher of the Handicapped or Teachers of Students with Disabilities certification, possess strong communication skills, and be able to collaborate effectively

Qualifications

• NJ Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students with Disabilities and secondary School Teacher Certification required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
• Teaching experience with special needs students preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident/immigrant status.

Responsibilities

• Implement instruction to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives.
• Employ instructional methods and available materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
• Assess the performance of students on a continuing basis and provide progress reports as required.
• Identify students who require additional support services.
• Communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
• Maintain high expectations for student performance and behavior.
• Engage in professional development activities, which enhances instructional practices.
• Participate in appropriate building and district meetings.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Use technology for communication purposes.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
