Job summary

Sylvan Learning Center in Pasadena is seeking a part-time in-center Center Tutor to deliver Sylvan program-based instruction and monitor student progress.

You will greet students, prepare sessions, manage time, and communicate outcomes to the Education Team; prior tutoring or teaching experience is preferred. Comfort with tablets and digital learning platforms is required. Starting pay ranges $20-$23 per hour based on experience.

Qualifications

• Competency in Math and/or English Language Arts.
• Four year degree.
• Teaching or tutoring experience.
• State teaching credential.
• Comfort with tablet computers and digital learning platforms.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for each instructional session; gathers and organizes materials.
• Greets students and initiates instruction to engage each student.
• Delivers instruction according to Sylvan program materials.
• Manages students, tasks, and time to create a productive session.
• Evaluates and records student progress on each program assignment.
• Uses praise and encouragement to keep students engaged and motivated.
• Tracks tokens earned and manages token system.
• Concludes sessions with learning logs and transition activities; ensures safety and well-being.
• Communicates student needs and progress to the Education Team.
• Attends staff meetings and completes ongoing training.
• Completes certification training on each Sylvan program taught.
