Job description

We're building an amazing team of individuals.
Import/Export Logistics Specialist

Looking for a job? Look elsewhere.

Looking for a role where you're the reason things arrive, get counted, clear customs, and land where they're supposed to — at a place where your precision and your follow-through actually matter? Read on.

We're Laudisi — the people behind Smokingpipes.com, Peterson of Dublin, Cornell & Diehl, Caldwell Cigar Company, and a handful of other brands you've probably never heard of (but our customers are obsessed with). We move product across a multi-brand, multi-entity operation spanning manufacturing, wholesale distribution, and direct-to-consumer retail — with facilities in South Carolina, a factory and office in Dublin, Ireland, and international suppliers across multiple continents. Getting things from point A to point B isn't a background function here. It's the circulatory system of the whole business.

That's where you come in.

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO:

As our Logistics & Customs Specialist, you'll own the movement of domestic and international shipments across five business units: transportation scheduling, documentation, shipment tracking, and working hand-in-hand with our customs brokers and freight forwarders. When something goes sideways (a customs hold, a documentation discrepancy, a clearance delay, a container stuck at port), you're the first call and the person who sees it through. You'll sit at the intersection of purchasing, receiving, shipping, accounting, and our international supply chain, making sure nothing falls through the cracks between them.

You’ll also:

  • Own import and export freight from origin to dock: coordinate ocean (FCL and LCL), air, and courier shipments with suppliers and partners across multiple continents
  • Own carrier and forwarder relationships for international freight: select and evaluate partners, negotiate rates and contracts, and hold them accountable for cost, reliability, and service
  • Manage customs clearance with our brokers: review commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin before goods ship; confirm ISF filings are on time; and check entry summaries and duty charges for accuracy
  • Drive import compliance: work with our broker to ensure accurate HTS classification, valuation, and country-of-origin marking; keep import records audit-ready for CBP; and learn the FDA and TTB requirements that come with importing tobacco products (we’ll teach you the tobacco-specific rules)
  • Coordinate export shipments: prepare export documents and work within agreed Incoterms with international customers and partners
  • Manage inbound freight: carrier scheduling, shipment tracking, delivery verification, and resolving discrepancies with domestic and international carriers
  • Coordinate vendor logistics: maintain vendor compliance standards so shipments arrive the way they're supposed to
  • Process and resolve freight claims: damage, shortage, and loss-in-transit claims for both inbound and outbound shipments
  • Administer Stock Throughput Insurance claims with our insurance partners (training provided; what matters is that you can learn it)
  • Use shipping platforms including UPS WorldShip, UPS Forwarding Hub, myDHL+, Stamps.com, and ShipStation to quote, book, and track inbound and export shipments

YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF:

You're the kind of person who tracks a container from the port to the loading dock — not because someone asked you to, but because you can't not know where it is. When a shipment shows up short, you don't shrug and move on. You dig into the BOL, Air Waybill, and the carrier's records until the discrepancy is resolved.

You check the paperwork before the freight moves, not after. You know a wrong country of origin, a mismatched invoice, or a late ISF filing costs real money at the border, so you catch it while it's still an email instead of a customs hold.

You understand that logistics isn't just about moving boxes. It's about making sure every department that depends on what's inside those boxes can do their job. When purchasing places an order and shipping needs to fulfill it and accounting needs to reconcile it, you're the person who makes sure the handoffs are clean.

You're comfortable working across multiple systems, multiple carriers, multiple customs brokers, and multiple business units without losing track of anything. You don't wait to be told what's next — you already know, because you're paying attention. In a company with five business units and international operations, your job isn't just to coordinate shipments. It's to make sure the people who depend on those shipments trust that someone's on top of it.

YOU CAN EXPECT:

  • Compensation and benefits: Competitive compensation; health, dental, and vision insurance; six paid holidays; generous PTO; 401(k) with 1:1 match up to 4% and no vesting period.
  • Perks: Casual dress, tuition reimbursement, referral bonuses, year-end bonuses, fresh fruit daily, paid luncheons, and regular company events.
  • Growth: A company that has grown every year for a quarter century tends to keep outgrowing what it has — and the people who've benefited most here are the ones who showed up with aptitude and judgment before a bigger role existed to put them in.
  • Culture: A passionate group of "Laudisians" who take their work seriously and like working with other people who do, too.
  • Reality check: We work around tobacco and smoke; many of us are enthusiasts. You'll often be in or near smoking areas, so you'll need to be comfortable with that.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Hands‑on experience in logistics, freight coordination, import/export, or customs brokerage, including direct work on international shipments and customs clearance (3+ years preferred)
  • Hands‑on experience preparing or reviewing import documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, BOLs, air waybills) and resolving discrepancies before they become customs problems
  • Direct experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders on clearance, including handling customs holds or delays
  • Experience negotiating freight rates or managing carrier and forwarder relationships for international shipments
  • Working knowledge of ISF filing requirements, HTS classification, and Incoterms
  • Experience filing and resolving freight claims (damage, shortage, loss‑in‑transit)
  • Working knowledge of at least two shipping platforms such as UPS WorldShip, UPS Forwarding Hub, myDHL+, Stamps.com, or ShipStation
  • Strong plus: experience with ABI‑connected customs software or CCS certification
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across business units without dropping threads
  • Self‑directed and reliable; able to manage priorities without close supervision
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to pass a criminal background check

THE BOTTOM LINE:

This job isn't for someone who thinks logistics is just about tracking numbers and delivery dates. It's for someone who understands that every shipment connects to a purchase order, an inventory count, a vendor relationship, and ultimately a customer who's waiting for something they care about.

If you're reading this and thinking, "finally, somewhere that treats logistics like it actually matters to the business" — apply below.

If you're reading this and thinking, "I just want to process shipments and go home" — we're probably not the right fit.

But if you want to be the person who helps keep a complex, multi‑brand operation running smoothly — and you want to work with people who notice and appreciate that? We'd like to meet you.

We're building something here. Come help us build it.

Applicants being considered must pass a criminal background check. Our hiring and employment practices are based solely on job related criteria, and we do not discriminate on the basis of any characteristic protected by law.

Compensation: $75,000.00 Annually
