Job summary

Optomi, in partnership with a leading telecommunications organization, is seeking an Implementation Engineer 2 to support network implementation, testing, and legacy infrastructure decommissioning initiatives. Qualifications

• 5+ years of network testing experience.
• Hands-on experience with transport grooming and implementation activities.

• Experience inserting or removing nodes to heal rings.
• Familiarity with legacy equipment and unsupported platforms.

• Excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and escalate issues when needed.

Responsibilities

• Test network devices and validate functionality before and after implementation changes.
• Perform network grooming across SONET, DWDM, and Ethernet equipment.
• Execute established implementation plans while verifying that proposed changes are technically feasible.
• Identify potential risks, configuration issues, or connectivity concerns before changing network configurations.
• Insert or remove network nodes as needed to heal rings and maintain connectivity.
• Decommission legacy network equipment per established procedures.
• Process disconnect orders and related network changes through existing operational systems.
• Document testing results, implementation activities, and equipment decommissioning work.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and subject matter experts to resolve issues and ensure successful implementations.
• Learn established processes and legacy systems while obtaining necessary system access.
• Support knowledge transfer and team development as implementation and testing responsibilities transition to the broader peer organization.

The ideal candidate brings strong network testing experience, hands‑on knowledge of transport network equipment, and the ability to execute implementation plans while identifying potential issues before they impact network operations. This is an opportunity to help establish and develop a local implementation team supporting critical network modernization and legacy infrastructure initiatives.

Experience of the Right Candidate:

• Strong network testing experience, preferably 5+ years
• Hands‑on experience with network grooming, implementation activities, and executing established engineering plans
• Experience testing network devices and supporting telecommunications network changes
• Knowledge of SONET, DWDM, and Ethernet technologies
• Ability to evaluate implementation plans, identify potential technical issues, and determine when a proposed change should not proceed
• Experience inserting or removing network nodes to restore or maintain ring connectivity
• Familiarity with legacy telecommunications equipment and unsupported network platforms
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to learn proprietary systems, navigate established processes, and adapt to legacy operational environments
• Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound technical judgment, and escalating issues when necessary

Key Responsibilities:

• Test network devices and validate network functionality before and after implementation changes

• Document testing results, implementation activities, and equipment decommissioning work
• Collaborate with engineering teams and technical subject matter experts to resolve issues and ensure successful implementations
• Learn established processes and legacy systems while obtaining the necessary system access to perform assigned work
• Support knowledge transfer and team development as implementation and testing responsibilities transition to the broader peer organization

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience with legacy telecommunications networks and transport equipment
• Experience working with older or unsupported SONET and DWDM platforms
• Previous experience with US West, Mountain Bell, Qwest, or CenturyLink
• Familiarity with telecommunications provisioning, disconnect orders, and legacy network management systems
• Experience supporting network migrations, equipment decommissioning, and transport network maintenance
