Job summary

The YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area is seeking a part-time Youth Development Driver to provide safe, reliable transport to program sites. You will enforce rules, maintain vehicle safety, and document trip details while engaging with youth, families, and staff in a respectful, inclusive manner.

You will also complete required certifications, participate in trainings, and uphold the YMCA mission and core values in daily interactions and operations.

Qualifications

• At least twenty-five (25) years of age.
• At least one year of work experience as a bus driver preferred.
• Possess and maintain appropriate class drivers license.
• Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles.
• Certifications required within thirty (30) days of hire: CPR/AED and First Aid for Adults, Children, and Infants.
• Desire and ability to work with youth.
• Positive track record of building relationships with parents, youth, volunteers, and staff.
• Completion of YMCA’s online training upon date of hire and periodically thereafter.
• Availability weekdays (dependent upon program needs).

Responsibilities

• Drives safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state and local laws.
• Uses problem solving skills to make quick decisions to recognize and evaluate potential dangers.
• Checks assigned vehicle(s) and surrounding area for hazardous conditions and takes appropriate actions to resolve concerns.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately; completes related reports as required.
• Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA, local and/or state codes.
• Promotes safety at all times; keeps first aid supplies fully stocked.
• Completes thorough before and after trip checks each day and records information such as gas level, mileage, and maintenance.
• Ensures vehicle rules are announced to all passengers and are followed.
• Continuously monitors transportation areas for hazardous or unsafe conditions; reports to supervisors and acts accordingly.
• Engages in active listening with participants, volunteers, and staff to build relationships; resolves situations promptly.
• Effectively communicates unusual situations and unresolved issues to leadership.
• Maintains safety, cleanliness, and organization throughout assigned vehicles.
• Cleans out vehicle(s) each day.
• Engages with diverse groups of people with different abilities and backgrounds.
• Completes periodic skill assessments and drills.
• Models YMCA procedures and policies including transportation rules and safety guidelines.
• Maintains all job-related certifications and adheres to abuse reporting requirements.
• Attends mandatory training and staff meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
