Job summary

CoreCivic is seeking a Vocational Instructor to deliver instructional services in an institutional, secure setting. The role focuses on vocational and occupational subjects such as business, computers/technology, carpentry, plumbing and trades to help inmates learn skills.

The instructor will prepare objectives, plan individualized study programs, and use various teaching materials; assess progress and provide reports as required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED certification or equivalent is required.
• Five years of full-time, wage-earning experience in the past eight years in the subject vocational trade or career readiness skills.
• Must possess current trade certification in the subject vocational area or be eligible for provisional licensure per Tennessee DOE requirements.
• Must have the ability to give clear instructions in the trade and/or vocational area.
• Experience in Microsoft Office applications is required.
• A valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare course objectives following curriculum standards and contract requirements.
• Plan and document a program of study that meets individual needs of students.
• Provide instruction using handouts, texts, audiovisual aids and other materials; evaluate student performance and issue progress reports; assist students with additional instruction as needed.
