Job summary

Mills Institute @ Northeastern University Upward Bound Program is seeking instructors to teach STEM, Language Arts, and Social Sciences to high school students in an engaging, college-prep setting. The role includes developing curricula, delivering lessons, and assessing student progress within a federally funded TRiO program in Oakland, CA.

The position is temporary, with pay rates of $75.00/hr for STEM, $50.00/hr for non-STEM, and $40.00/hr for summer term, plus a comprehensive Northeastern

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching related subjects.
• Minimum of 2 years of direct experience working with or teaching low-income, first-generation college-bound students.
• Knowledge of child and adolescent development, learning modalities, and teaching styles.
• Proficiency with computers and related classroom tech.
• Ability to work with diverse student backgrounds and enforce program policies.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective units, lessons, and classroom activities.
• Organize classroom systems and procedures and manage student behavior to engage all learners.
• Support classroom systems and procedures established by teachers.
• Design and implement a course syllabus outlining concepts, in-class work, projects, and post-assessments.
• Establish classroom management policies to maintain a productive environment.
• Participate in staff meetings and orientation/training sessions.
• Attend program activities and planning sessions.

Education

Bachelor’s degree
