Job summary

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent.
• 3–7 years of relevant experience with VDOT or similar highway projects.
• Knowledge of roadway, structure, and bridge construction/maintenance methods and specs.
• Experience with VDOT Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual, and MUTCD concepts.
• Ability to use project contract management software and MS Office.
• Read and interpret plans and apply math for field adjustments.
• Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Monitor contractor work for quality and contract compliance on roadway, structure, and bridge projects.
• Inspect and document field work including excavations, drainage, pavements, and structures.
• Document contractor daily production and schedule inspection phases with project team.
• Review and test construction materials and verify pay item measurements.
• Maintain project records (diaries, pay quantities, estimates).
• Enforce erosion/siltation controls, traffic control, and work zone safety.
• Review DBE documentation and federal labor compliance on Federal-aid projects.
