Job summary

The Anchorage School District seeks a Paraprofessional Educator for Special Education - Secondary. Under the supervision of a special education teacher, you will support students in classrooms and assist with instructional materials and IEP-based strategies.

Responsibilities include data collection, collaboration with staff, daily routine assistance, transportation support, and applying ASD de-escalation techniques as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.
• Must meet paraprofessional requirements for Alaska: 48 college credits from regionally accredited institution, OR a passing score on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment, OR passing WorkKeys, OR ASD Master Teacher paraprofessional training.
• Basic literacy in reading, writing, and math.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional relationships with staff, parents, students, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Provides special education services and support under the supervision of a special education teacher.
• Prepares or modifies instructional materials including assistive technology devices.
• Collects data in accordance with student IEP goals and objectives.
• Collaborates and works cooperatively with colleagues and staff.
• Follows written and oral instructions and implements teacher-directed programming/strategies.
• Implements accommodations and modifications and behavioral/social interventions per IEP.
• Attends to daily hygiene and health-related care per IEP directives.
• Provides progress information to teachers and related service personnel.
• Assists in positioning, transfer, and physical support as needed.
• Supports students in community-based instruction and vocational activities.
