Job summary

South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) seeks a School Resource Officer to provide initial law enforcement response and campus safety coordination. You will patrol DJJ campuses, assist with investigations, and support school administrators to maintain a secure environment.

This role requires a high school diploma (Bachelor’s may substitute for experience) and SC certification. Candidates must be prepared for variable hours and overnight travel as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency.
• A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required law enforcement experience.
• Certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council as per SC code.
• Knowledge of state laws to protect & secure DJJ facilities.
• Ability to operate LE vehicles, weapons & comms equipment; read, write, think clearly.

Responsibilities

• Respond to calls for service as School Resource Officer.
• Patrol DJJ campuses to ensure safety and security of persons and property.
• Provide first responder support for campus emergencies.
• Escort unauthorized or disruptive individuals off DJJ campuses.
• Prepare shift reports and maintain security records.
• Transport youth as needed and assist investigations involving youth.
• Support school administrators in maintaining a safe learning environment.
