Job summary

Madison Metropolitan School District in Madison, WI is seeking a qualified school nurse to join the Pupil Services team on a 192-day contract. The role supports students with health needs and collaborates with families and school staff to promote safe, healthy learning environments.

This exempt position requires a BSN, WI RN license, CPR, and experience with IEP/504 plans, emergency planning, and cross-cultural care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
• Current Wisconsin RN license.
• DPI license must be obtained within 3 years of employment.
• CPR/AED certification.
• Basic Emergency Care Course completed within 6 months or previously.
• Experience working cross-culturally and commitment to cultural competence.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership in development and evaluation of school health policies and procedures.
• Lead the Student Support and Intervention Team (SSIT).
• Participate on the School-based Leadership Team (SBLT).
• Develop Individualized Care Plans (IHP) and monitor interventions/outcomes.
• Develop Emergency Health Plans (EHP) for staff and students.
• Provide training and monitor nursing interventions delegated to non-nurse staff.
• Serve on IEP and 504 teams.
• Educate staff about chronic illness implications for learning.
• Promote attendance and engagement of students with chronic conditions.
• Plan transitions for students with IHPs and EHPs between environments.
• Coordinate primary and specialty care with families; refer to community partners.
• Assist enrollment in health programs; provide health education in classrooms.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in nursing

Active Wisconsin RN license

Wisconsin DPI license within 3 years

CPR/AED certification

Basic Emergency Care Course completion

Cross-cultural experience / cultural competence
