Job summary

Cross Country Education is seeking a local contract School Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Ellicott City, MD. The role involves direct services, consultation, assessments, and IEP support for children and young adults ages 3–21 across home, school, and community environments.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and a COMS credential; experience with VI students is preferred. The position offers a 37.5-hour school-based week, weekly pay, and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential through ACVREP or equivalent.
• Experience with children and adolescents who are blind or visually impaired; familiarity with IDEA, IEP development, and school-based services.

Responsibilities

• Provide orientation and mobility services to children and young adults 3–21 across home, school, and community settings.
• Conduct functional assessments and provide recommendations for orientation, mobility, and access needs.
• Collaborate with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams; participate in IEP meetings to support evaluations and service planning.
• Develop individualized strategies to promote safe, independent travel and participation in educational activities.
