Description

We are hiring Behavioral Health Specialists to provide services to students at various schools within the Maui District based on needs and assignment by the Maui District Office. Positions are primarily Behavioral Health Specialist IV, with an allowance for candidates with a Master’s degree to be considered for Behavioral Health Specialist III during recruitment difficulties. Applicants must hold a current driver’s license.

Salary Range

• Behavioral Health Specialist III, SR‑20: $4,961.00 – $6,043.00
• Behavioral Health Specialist IV, SR‑22: $5,588.00 – $6,283.00

Responsibilities

• Assess when and why an individual is engaging in problem behavior by collecting and reviewing history through interviews, discussions with school personnel, and reviewing written records, tests, and reports.
• Develop an individualized behavior intervention/management plan that specifies techniques, methods, strategies, alternative skills, crisis prevention, and long‑term maintenance.
• Work collaboratively with school personnel, employers, and other professionals involved in implementing the plan.
• Conduct behavior management counseling and skill‑training sessions for individuals and groups to achieve behavioral goals, including attention span, communication, social, recreational, coping, anger management, problem solving, and functional daily living skills.
• Hold regular sessions with the individual and family to improve functioning, provide parenting skills and child‑management techniques, and facilitate effective communication and problem solving.
• Advise school personnel and others on appropriate techniques, methods, and strategies to facilitate plan goals.
• Participate in the integration of services across settings as appropriate.
• Maintain case records, correspondence, and reports per policies and confidentiality rules.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited university in counseling, marriage/family therapy, psychology, or social work.
• One year of progressively responsible professional post‑Master’s experience providing counseling and/or therapy to individuals/families, including helping resolve behavioral problems.
• Possession of a current, valid driver’s license.

Desirable Qualifications

• Current National Certified Counselor credential from the National Board of Certified Counselors.
