Job summary

S&C Electric Company in Chicago, IL is seeking a Safety and Environmental Specialist to join our Production & Facilities function. You will work with the corporate HSE team and provide technical consultation on safety and environmental matters to leadership and shop teams.

Reporting to the Switchgear Value Stream, you’ll support compliance activities, train staff, and drive safety programs to protect workers and the environment while supporting efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and/or Environmental, Mechanical/Industrial/Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience as a Safety & Environmental professional in engineering/manufacturing environments.
• Demonstrated communication and training design skills for leadership and teams.
• Willing to travel to other S&C locations within and outside the United States.
• Experience with safety and environmental compliance and data analytics.

Responsibilities

• Provide Safety & Environmental guidance for HSE programs (BBS, LERP, RCRA, Hazard Communication, LOTO, Confined Space, Ergonomics, PIV, OSHA compliance).
• Refine programs and procedures to improve effectiveness and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Train team members on requirements and assist site in HSE program adherence.
• Track Federal, State and Local safety & environmental regulations and their impact on operations.
• Coordinate facility audits, inspections, and corrective actions with Operations.
• Calibrate instrumentation and collect environmental samples as needed.
