Job summary

S&C Electric Company is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Technician-Intermediate in Chicago for 3rd shift (Sun-Thu, 10:30pm-7am). The role focuses on maintaining electrical equipment, supporting plant operations, and ensuring safety per NEC/Chicago codes. Overtime and weekend work may be required.

The position offers a competitive hourly wage starting at $27.00 plus 10% premium, with eligibility for a short-term incentive bonus. Strong diagnostic and repair skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • 0–3 years of experience in industrial electrical maintenance.
  • Knowledge of The National Electric Code and Chicago Electrical Code.
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams and schematics.
  • Proficient with testing tools (DMM, Megger, amp clamp).

Responsibilities

  • Reading layouts, diagrams, schematics and project docs to complete tasks.
  • Assisting Facilities personnel with electrical upgrades or alterations.
  • Install, maintain and repair electrical equipment and systems per code.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely in a manufacturing environment.
  • Provide labor support for emergencies and maintenance projects.

Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, with a commitment to transparency in our pay practices. the estimated hourly base pay rate for this position starts at $27.00 plus 10% premium. This role is also eligible for S&C’s annual short-term incentive bonus, subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Electrical Maintenance? You’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reading layouts, diagrams, schematics, project commissioning documents, and material lists with the ability to complete related assigned task.
  • Assisting other Facilities personnel with engineering improvement with electrical upgrades or alterations.
  • Exercising some judgment with making decisions on assigned projects or tasks.
  • Installation, maintenance and repairs of electrical equipment and systems common to facilities maintenance including lighting systems, distribution equipment, fans, switches, motors, controls, etc. In accordance with the National and Chicago Electrical Code.
  • Operates a variety of specialized equipment related to assigned activities including various hand and power tools and material handling equipment.
  • Provide additional labor support in the event of an emergency.
  • Installation of communication and network wiring for computer and phone systems as assigned (Cat5 Cat6 and Ethernet systems).
What You’ll Need To Succeed
  • 0-3 years of experience in industrial electrical maintenance.
  • An understanding of methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance, repair and installation of electrical systems, distribution and emergency systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of The National Electric Code, The Chicago Electrical Codeand building codes related to the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of computer and telecommunication systems.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment associated with the electrical maintenance field. (DMM, Amp clamp, Megger, etc.).
  • Understanding of Ohms Law.
  • Understanding of shop math applicable to the building trades.
  • Understanding of safety precautions and procedures related to electricity.
  • Electrical blueprints.
  • Proficient with oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work earlier or later than your prescribed shift depending on company need.
  • Available to work on other shifts, weekends, and holidays shutdowns to support production and maintenance projects or to participate in training.
Education/Certifications

Required

  • High School Diploma.
  • A driver’s license in good standing

Preferred

  • Completion of hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical training courses from a community college.
  • Refrigeration repair certification.
  • NFPA 70E training.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing: Continuously required to stand and perform tasks.
  • Walking: Frequently required to walk moderate distances across the S&C campus.
  • Lifting & Carrying: Frequently required to solo or team lift and/or carry items, exercising sound judgment to employ manual handling or machine lifts where required, and risk assessments, if appropriate.
  • Low Posture: Frequently required to perform tasks using a low posture, including but not limited to stooping, bending, crawling, crouching, kneeling, or squatting.
  • Position Self / Move: Frequently required to position self to perform tasks involving but not limited to reaching, twisting, rotating, and pushing/pulling.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequently required to use hand-eye coordination to control both hands and arms for a full range of motion to operate equipment, machinery, power tools, and office productivity equipment.
  • Ascending / Descending: Frequently ascending or descending stairs.
  • Observation / Eyesight: Frequently required to observe details at close range, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors.
Environmental & Hazardous Conditions
  • Continuously working indoors in an air-conditioned manufacturing-based environment.
  • Infrequently exposed to fumes/vapors/dust/gases/odors/mist/toxic chemicals/vibration/grease/oils/lasers/other etc.
  • Continuously exposed to moderate noise levels, including machinery and forklifts.
  • Infrequently working with the risk of scalding/burns/other etc.
  • Infrequently exposed to wet humid/outdoor weather/extreme cold (non-weather)/extreme heat (non-weather) conditions/other etc.
  • Continuously working with machinery with moving parts/vehicles/forklifts/heavy machinery/sharp objects/other etc.
