Job summary

The Office of the New York State Comptroller seeks staff to process and maintain member and employer retirement applications and data across NYS Retirement Systems. You will interpret applicable laws, explain complex benefit information, determine eligibility and payments, and perform high-level calculations with long-term fiscal impact.

You will respond to inquiries by phone and email, prepare reports, and provide technical direction or training to staff.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience reconciling accounts, calculating payments, collecting/analyzing statistics, or explaining policy/benefit information to the public.
• Associate’s degree may substitute for two years of required experience.
• Must be reachable on the appropriate eligible list or eligible to transfer under Civil Service Law Section 70.1.
• Non-competitive promotion qualifications require one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as Employees Retirement System Examiner 1.

Responsibilities

• Process and maintain member and employer applications and data.
• Interpret NYS laws, rules, regulations, and procedures; communicate complex benefit information.
• Determine eligibility and benefit payments.
• Perform high-level complex calculations with long-term fiscal implications for retirees and retirement systems.
• Answer inquiries by telephone, respond to correspondence and emails.
• Prepare written materials and reports; provide technical direction and staff training.
