Job summary

Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Residential Counselor I and Intake Coordinator. The role supports the Independent Apartment Program (IAP) and AHAL II housing programs, manages intakes for the Community Living Program, and ensures services meet governmental standards.

The position requires a bachelor's degree in Human Service fields, at least 2 years of related experience, leadership ability, and knowledge of entitlements

Qualifications

• Required – bachelor's degree in the Human Service fields.
• Minimum of 2 years collaborating with individuals who have a mental health diagnosis.
• Demonstrates leadership skills.
• Knowledge of federal, state entitlements & benefits (within Nassau County preferred).

Responsibilities

• Oversee residential staff, including counselors, relief staff, volunteers and interns.
• Support the Program Manager with supervision and evaluation of staff.
• Assist in hiring and training new staff.
• Attend and facilitate team meetings.
• Provide crisis management services.
• Support residents in developing recovery goals aligned with cultural background.
• Serve as liaison between residents, landlords and treatment teams.
• Meet regularly with Program Manager for one-on-one meetings.
• Participate in Quality Improvement activities.
