Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation is seeking a Special Project Assistant (hourly) to support the Public Utilities department. The role conducts research, data collection, analyzes policy impacts, prepares reports, and helps manage complex, multi‑agency initiatives.

This part‑time position offers a salary range of $25 to $35 per hour, with 20 scheduled hours per week, and opportunities to contribute to city projects and community programs while gaining public‑sector experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration or four (4) years paid professional experience including research, statistical analysis, project and legislative review, policy development, and related activities.
• Preference for public sector experience.
• Knowledge of project management, statistical analysis, and research methods.
• Ability to present project details using complex spreadsheet analysis and technical reports.

Responsibilities

• Conducts research on assigned issues, performs analysis, and assesses legislative, fiscal, and political impacts.
• Develops models or scenarios to simulate economic, land use or legislative impacts.
• Prepares formal written findings and recommendations for management action.
• Facilitates meetings with departments, community groups, and consultants to gather insights for project goals.
• Develops project parameters including resources, time frames, funding, staffing, and schedules.
