Job summary

UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh is seeking a Full-Time Patient Care Technician for the 5 South Neurosurgical Unit. The role supports RN-directed patient care, assists with ADLs, monitors patients, and helps ensure safety and comfort on a fast-paced unit.

You will perform vital signs, specimen collection, telemetry, and basic dressings, maintain infection control standards, document care, and coordinate with the healthcare team to enhance the patient experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum hourly starting rates are listed by level: Care Attendant $18.19, Nursing Assistant $18.59, Patient Care Technician $18.99, Patient Care Technician Senior $19.19.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate.
