Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking a dedicated full‑time Parents Educator to provide parent education and support from prenatal through kindergarten entry. You will perform home visits, group sessions, screenings, and referrals to resources, with a focus on enhancing parenting and child development.

The role requires driving to families, data entry into district systems, and ongoing professional development to maintain certification and program compliance.

Qualifications

  • Possess a valid driver's license and be able to provide own transportation; must be able to present proof of insurance.
  • Meet MO DESE Parent Educator requirements through the ECDA manual.
  • Certification and/or a two‑year degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; and two years of experience with young children and their parents.
  • Sixty semester hours toward an academic degree and two years of related experience.
  • Five years of related experience with potential additional training as required by DESE.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an assigned family caseload and complete visits, screenings, documentation, and follow‑ups on schedule.
  • Deliver visits using the Parents as Teachers Foundational Curriculum and district practices with developmentally appropriate guidance.
  • Plan, prepare, and conduct visits in multiple settings and use district data for planning and tracking.
  • Document all services in the district data system within required timelines and keep confidential records.
  • Conduct developmental, social‑emotional, health, hearing, and vision screenings annually with referrals when appropriate.
  • Plan and promote parent group connections and family engagement activities with strong communication and relationship skills.
  • Communicate with families between visits to support goals and provide KCPS resources.
  • Stay current with Parents as Teachers and KCPS program requirements, including the ECDA manual and district updates.
  • Participate in supervisor meetings, staff meetings, PLCs, and professional development to maintain competency hours.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention of families and build community relationships to support program visibility.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct, maintain confidentiality, and reflect the mission and values of KCPS and Parents as Teachers.
  • Manage time and responsibilities independently, use technology proficiently, and maintain organized workflows.
