Job summary

The New York Times Company is seeking a 2027 Times Fellowship copy editor for the Opinion section in New York. The role focuses on defending readers by ensuring clarity, accuracy and adherence to style while preserving each writer's voice.

The fellowship is in-office with some remote flexibility. Regular attendance four days per week is expected, with potential for occasional nights, weekends, and holidays. Finalists will take an editing test.

Qualifications

• Experience editing articles, essays or scripts for publication.
• Experience with copy editing and ensuring adherence to style and standards.
• Ability to meet firm deadlines and work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Copy edit story text, headlines, captions and display copy for clarity.
• Ensure accuracy and consistency across editorials, guest essays and columns.
• Polish and quality-check podcast transcripts, graphics and video elements.
• Respond to changing priorities based on department needs and news cycle.
• Demonstrate support for journalistic independence and mission to seek the truth.
• Collaborate with story editors and fact-checkers as needed.
