The New York Times Company invites applications for the 2027 New York Times Fellowship as a digital designer in the Opinion section in New York. You will support editorial and creative teams to produce and promote digital Opinion journalism, shaping stories and creating visuals that connect with audiences on site and across social media.

• Self-directed, adaptable designer who can quickly develop creative solutions.
• Strong understanding of social media branding, platforms and best practices.
• Portfolio demonstrating visual storytelling and design craft.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and create visual experiences across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and emerging platforms.
• Translate editorial ideas into motion, video, audio and digital design interactives.
• Experiment with visual storytelling and design approaches to engage new audiences.
• Contribute to creative ideation, visual development and art direction.
• Pitch ideas and collaborate with editors, illustrators, and photographers.
• Develop work within established design systems while exploring evolution opportunities.
• Document and archive creative work and processes for the broader team.
• Participate in training and social programs designed for the fellowship.
• Support and uphold journalistic independence and the mission to seek the truth.
