Job summary

Monterey College of Law seeks a detail-oriented Controller to join its mission-driven finance team in Oceanside, CA. The Controller will assist the CFO in directing financial operations for a $6M nonprofit law school, safeguarding financial integrity and supporting stewardship of resources.

Responsibilities include supervising accounting staff, ensuring GAAP compliance, assisting with budgeting and audits, and coordinating tax/filings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible accounting or controller-level experience, preferably in non-profit/education.
• Demonstrated discretion handling confidential information and supervising staff.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day accounting operations: GL, AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations.
• Apply nonprofit GAAP for financial statements (monthly/quarterly/yearly).
• Assist CFO with annual operating budget, variance analysis, and forecasting.
• Coordinate annual independent audit and Form 990 preparation with external auditors.
• Maintain internal controls and monitor cash management and compliance.
• Support finance in HR/payroll intersects and reports to the CFO/COO.
