Job summary

CFS in Baltimore is seeking a strategic, hands-on Chief Financial Officer to lead all financial operations for a growth-oriented nonprofit focused on youth and family outcomes. The CFO will oversee budgeting, forecasting, compliance, audits, and financial reporting while supporting fiscal sponsorship initiatives and nonprofit entity development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Significant nonprofit accounting and financial leadership experience.
• Prior experience with fiscal sponsorship arrangements.
• Demonstrated experience transitioning organizations out of fiscal sponsorship structures, or establishing a new 501(c)(3) organization from the ground up.
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit financial reporting, grant compliance, and fund accounting.
• Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership and boards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities.
• Provide strategic financial guidance to the Executive Leadership Team and Board.
• Oversee monthly and annual financial close processes.
• Manage audit, tax filings, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and financial procedures.
• Monitor organizational cash flow and long-term financial sustainability.
• Support grant budgeting, reporting, and funder compliance.
• Partner with program and operational leaders on financial decision‑making.
• Lead financial aspects of fiscal sponsorship arrangements.
• Advise on nonprofit entity formation, governance, and financial infrastructure development.
• Support organizations transitioning from fiscal sponsorship models to independent 501(c)(3) status.
• Serve as a thought partner on organizational growth, strategic initiatives, and operational improvements.
