Job summary

Aspire Chicago is seeking a Manager, Accounting to lead day-to-day financial operations, ensure GAAP and nonprofit compliance, and drive accurate financial close processes. You will partner with the Controller and Finance team to deliver timely reports and strengthen internal controls.

This role emphasizes ownership of accounting cycles, collaboration across departments, and continuous process improvements in a mission-driven organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of accounting work experience required.
• Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles required.
• Experience with general ledger accounting and reconciliations required.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel required.
• Valid Illinois driver’s license and consistently good driving record required.
• Associate’s Degree in Accounting preferred.
• Experience working with grants, restricted funds, or government contracts preferred.
• Familiarity with nonprofit financial statements preferred.
• Experience with accounting systems such as MIP, Intacct, NetSuite, or similar preferred.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Controller to execute monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
• Prepare, review, and post monthly journal entries including accruals and allocations.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Produce and analyze internal financial statements and management reports.
• Collaborate on budget development, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Monitor departmental spending, identify variances, trends and risks.
• Coordinate annual financial audit preparation and respond to auditor requests.
• Ensure accurate tracking of restricted funds and grant reporting.
