Job summary

Ledyard Public Schools seeks a Long-Term Substitute Middle School Guidance Counselor to commence in March 2027 through the remainder of the school year. You will support student success, guide personal and career planning, and collaborate with a comprehensive counseling department aligned with CSCA goals.

You will provide individual and group counseling, assist with transitions, and contribute to social-emotional programs while maintaining accurate records and participating in required meetings.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated excellence in school counseling—middle school experience preferred.
• Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals.
• Experience using counseling techniques for school-wide programming, one-on-one and group activities.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work in a responsive and long-term planning manner.
• Promotes a positive learning environment responsive to and respectful of students’ needs.
• Continues to acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
• Enthusiasm for learning.

Responsibilities

• Counsels individuals and/or groups of students through the development and interpretation of education, personal, and career plans.
• Assists students in transitions through education.
• Interprets test scores and student information for staff and parents as appropriate.
• Works with students, parents and families in crisis or concern situations.
• Attends Planning and Placement Team and other meetings as needed.
• Provides direct individual and small group counseling services and social skills groups.
• Creates, implements, and monitors behavioral intervention plans.
• Provides consultation to teachers, related services colleagues, and student support staff to facilitate student success across settings.
• Facilitates and supports school climate, school culture, and positive behavior initiatives.
• Provides family support for students through referrals to community resources and ongoing communication with parents and community-based professionals.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and current records as required by law, state and district policy.
