Job summary

The Norwalk Board of Education seeks a Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher for Cranbury Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. The teacher will deliver IEP-mandated instruction in a structured classroom, implementing IEP goals and collecting data to guide instruction.

Candidates must hold a Connecticut special education teaching certificate, have IEP data collection knowledge, and be able to collaborate with staff and families.

Qualifications

• Current special education (165) Connecticut teaching certificate required.
• IEP data collection knowledge.
• Working knowledge of IEP Direct.
• Elementary school special education experience preferred.
• Current PMT or CPI training.
• Fluency in Spanish is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Follows the scope and sequence of the instructional program.
• Manages the classroom and individual student behavior.
• Prepares lesson plans that meet objectives and learner needs.
• Maintains records as required.
• Conducts parent/teacher conferences.
• Assesses student learning and identifies intervention needs.
• Keeps parents informed of progress through reports and conferences.
• Plans instruction for individual and small group settings.
• Designs clear and specific learning assessments.
• Maintains a positive learning environment and professional relationships.
• Communicates with parents regularly.
• Assists in IEP implementation with general education staff.
• Monitors student progress and participates in IEP reviews.
