Job summary

Dayton Early College Academy (DECA) seeks a Long-Term Elementary Substitute Teacher to advocate for students and tailor learning to individual needs. You will know students well, help plan goals, and create engaging experiences in advisory groups under the principal's supervision.

The role emphasizes building relationships with students, families, and staff while aligning with Ohio standards and DECA PREP’s mission, with a temporary 6–8 week term and responsibilities across core content areas.

Qualifications

• Valid Ohio teaching license for assigned grade and/or subjects; or Ohio Substitute Teaching License.
• Prior relevant experience preferred.
• Effective interpersonal skills with children and adults.
• Knowledge of state and national standards and IDEA rules and procedures.
• Sound classroom management skills.
• Ability to improvise and work through uncertainties.
• Experience with technology integration in teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

• Serve as positive role model for students.
• Assess student strengths and needs in academics, social, and personal areas.
• Develop meaningful relationships with each student and their parent/guardian.
• Be available to students and parents outside traditional times when required.
• Implement DECA PREP’s mission and goals aligned to standards.
• Attend to Ohio content standards as defined by the state.
• Celebrate student accomplishments and hold students accountable.
• Advocate for students and families; forecast educational needs.
• Plan instruction meeting individual needs, interests, and abilities.
• Report progress quarterly, by phone, and through weekly meetings.
• Attend faculty meetings and staff development.
• Provide additional academic, social, and health services as needed.
• Maintain accurate records as required by law and agreements.
• Use varied educational techniques to reach goals.
• Collaborate with school team on intervention strategies.
• Provide supplemental activities to support growth.
• Ensure use of standard materials; perform other duties as assigned.
• Strive to continually improve professional competence.
