Job summary

Westfield Washington School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant at Cool Creek Elementary School to support teachers by working with students individually or in small groups. This full-time position (176 days, 35 hours/week) requires a high school diploma and a cooperative, professional approach under supervision.

Responsibilities include assisting with testing accommodations, reinforcing material, guiding independent study, and supervising classroom activities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
• Clear and concise communication, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to perform work with independent judgment, accuracy, speed, and confidentiality.
• Relate well to students, parents, staff, and the community.
• Work without continuous supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist with district and state-wide testing per student accommodations.
• Assist the teacher in reinforcing material or skills based on individual student needs.
• Guide independent study, enrichment, and remedial work as assigned.
• Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work.
• Assist with group activities such as drill, reading aloud, and storytelling.
• Serve as chief information source for substitute teachers in the absence of the teacher(s).
• Alert the teacher to special problems about individual students.
• Record keeping as assigned by teacher.
• Assist in areas related to personal, social, and instructional needs under supervision.
• Assist with assistive technology needs as required for academic success.
• Assist with data on goal progress and behaviors.
