Job summary

Westfield Washington School District's Maple Glen Elementary seeks an Instructional Assistant to support teachers in delivering instruction to individual students or small groups. This full-time role (176 days, 35 hours/week) reports to the classroom teacher and principal and aims to help students reach the class skill levels.

The assistant will support testing accommodations, assist with materials, supervise activities, manage records, and help maintain a safe, confidential learning

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Capable of relating to students, parents, staff and community.

Responsibilities

• Assist with district/state testing per accommodations.
• Support teacher by reinforcing material to students.
• Guide independent study, enrichment and remedial work.
• Check notebooks, correct papers, supervise tests and makeup work.
• Lead group activities such as drills, reading aloud and storytelling.
• Assist substitutes and alert teachers to student issues.
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior at all times.
• Record keeping as assigned by teacher.
• Support personal, social and instructional needs under supervision.
• Assist with assistive technology as required for success.
