Job summary

Agate Software is seeking a Software Developer II to build and improve a mission-critical grant management product in a fast-moving environment. You’ll work across the stack (SQL, .NET, and HTML/CSS/JS) and own medium-to-high complexity work, including SQL scripts and backend logic in VB.NET or C#.NET.

Qualifications

• Professional experience shipping production software.
• Strong SQL: stored procedures, indexing, query optimization and testing.
• Web application development across backend and frontend layers.
• VB.NET or C#.NET proficiency with ability to ramp quickly.
• Frontend fundamentals: HTML, CSS/Bootstrap, JavaScript.
• Experience in Agile environments (Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe).
• Ability to work with limited direction and turn ambiguity into action.
• Strong debugging, root cause analysis and performance troubleshooting.
• Understanding modular design, state management, asynchronous patterns, and dependencies.

Responsibilities

• Deliver end-to-end features across database, backend, and UI (SQL + .NET + HTML/CSS/JS).
• Own medium-to-high complexity work from refinement through implementation and release.
• Write and maintain SQL stored procedures, functions, and scripts for performance-minded design.
• Contribute to backend logic in VB.NET or C#.NET (or ramp quickly).
• Build and enhance frontend components using HTML, CSS/Bootstrap, and JavaScript.
• Collaborate with QA to improve test coverage and ensure quality.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and help the team deliver predictably.
• Perform code reviews and enforce patterns/standards for quality.
• Support requirements clarity with Product/BA on technical approaches and acceptance criteria.
• Mentor SoftwareDeveloper I teammates through pairing and guidance.
