Job summary

Marana Unified School District is seeking a high school supplemental assistant coach to support the head coach in developing student-athletes. The role emphasizes leadership, safety, and adherence to AIA/NFHS rules, with a focus on clear communication and positive role modeling.

The position requires NFHS concussion training and current CPR/First Aid certification, plus the ability to work within district procedures and engage with families and communities.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching the assigned sport.
• Exceptional communication with students and parents.
• Patient, positive and proactive attitude in dealing with students and parents.
• NFHS Concussions in Sports training completed.
• Current CPR/First Aid Certification.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates dependability, organization, respect, integrity, and sportsmanship.
• Uses positive interpersonal relations and effective communication skills.
• Solves problems with good judgment.
• Maintains inventory of all equipment and supplies.
• Works with admins, purchasing staff, and vendors to procure gear.
• Communicates expectations to team members and families at season start.
• Organizes try-outs, practice plans, and game plans; coordinates additional coaches.
• Ensures player safety by inspecting playing surfaces and environment.
• Follows district and school procedures; applies sport knowledge to develop players.
• Maintains high behavioral and academic expectations for athletes.
• Promotes sportsmanship during practice, travel, and competition.
• Pursues ongoing knowledge of sport and player development.
• Partners with parent groups to enhance players' experience.
• Adheres to procurement and fundraising rules and procedures.
• Encourages skill development throughout the year.
• Represents the team positively in the community.
• Respects officials; head coach oversees bench personnel by rule.
• Supports health services and a safe environment; administers basic first aid when needed.
• Encourages scholastic achievement among athletes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
