Job summary

The Oregon Department of Human Services in Newport is seeking an Eligibility Worker (Public Benefits Specialist) to interview households, determine program eligibility, and help families access benefits in person at the Newport Branch.

You will gather income, resources, and other details, explain rights and responsibilities, and use ODHS systems to process renewals and changes. This is a permanent, full-time role with standard hours and a strong emphasis on trauma-informed service.

Qualifications

• One year of experience with the public in applying policies.
• Experience interpreting guidelines and communicating complex information.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time.
• Experience collaborating with diverse teams.
• Trauma-informed approach when assisting Oregonians.

Responsibilities

• Conduct phone or in-person interviews to determine program eligibility.
• Review materials and apply policies to determine eligibility.
• Explain rights and responsibilities during applications and renewals.
• Process data to ensure timely delivery of benefits.
• Coordinate with agencies and providers to offer referrals.
