Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university or eligible for BEI exemption.
• Valid certification as interpreter granted by RID or BEI.
• Must be 18 years of age; ability to interpret in an educational setting.
• Experience with children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret in educational settings including classrooms, co-curricular activities, school programs and meetings.
• Attend and interpret meetings as needed.
• Assist in tutoring hearing-impaired students under teacher direction.
• Adapt to each student’s communication needs.
• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of assigned students.
• Supervise students during the school day including lunchroom, bus, and playground.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development to improve performance.
• Attend faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
