Job summary

Danville Area Community College is hiring a Teaching Associate for the Child Development Center. The role plans and supervises developmentally appropriate activities for young children and coordinates with other staff to implement the curriculum.

The position requires 19+ years old, either an Associate Degree in Early Childhood (or Gateways Level 4) or two years of related college credits, and 1,000 hours of child development experience.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 19 years old.
• Associate degree in Early Childhood or Gateways Level 4 credential or two years of related college credits in child care/development.
• At least 1,000 hours of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center.

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for planning a developmentally appropriate curriculum or program for young children.
• Plans lessons in cooperation with other early childhood associates and submits written lesson plans regularly.
• Assists with supervision of student workers, work-study students and interns assigned to the teacher’s group.
• Plans appropriate playground activities reflecting the curriculum and ensures a sound instructional atmosphere and safe environment.
• Participates in in-service training and workshops to further professional development (minimum 20 hours per year).
• Maintains cooperative relationships with the Director and staff to keep the Center curriculum reflective of the program.

Accountability Objective

The Child Development Teaching Associate plans, performs, and supervises instructional and recreational activities for children in the Child Development Center.

Required Qualifications

Ability to stand, kneel, sit, stoop, lift 20+ lbs., climb, reach, and run/chase

At least 19 years of age

An Associate Degree in Early Childhood or credentialed through Illinois Gateways to Opportunity: ECE credential Level 4, or Two years of credits from accredited college or university with six semester or equivalent quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six
Skills and personal competence necessary to contribute to the children’s physical, intellectual, personal, emotional, and social development

B.S./B.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education, the following credential from Illinois Gateways to Opportunity: ECE credential Level 5 and Infant Toddler Level 1or related degree

1.Assumes ultimate responsibility for planning a developmentally appropriate curriculum or program for young children.

2.Plans lessons in cooperation and coordination with other early childhood associates.

3. Submits written lesson plans and newsletters on a regular basis (which are developmentally appropriate) to the Child Development Center Director.

4. Assist with the supervision of student workers, work study students, and interns assigned to the teacher’s respective group.

5.Plans appropriate playground activities as a reflection of the curriculum.

6.Keeps coordinator informed of instructional material and equipment needs of the Center to ensure a sound instructional atmosphere and a safe environment.

7. Participates in in-service training and workshops (minimum of 20 hours per year) to further professional development. The training is below:

● Department of Children and Family Services 15 hrs. (July to June).

● Member to Gateway to Opportunity, Illinois Professional Development System

8. Maintains cooperative relationships with the Director, instructors and staff from the Early Childhood Services Program in order to keep the Child Center curriculum reflective of the Early Childhood Services Program.

9. Upholds the highest standards for early childhood programs as advocated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Association for Childhood Education.

10. Assess classroom environment using the Environmental Rating Scales: Infant and Toddler Environmental Rating Scale ( ITERS ) and Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale ( ECERS ).

11. Assess all children using Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ’s): within 45 days of enrollment, Center Evaluation, and Portfolio Plan.

12. Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
