Job summary

Danville Area Community College is hiring a Teaching Associate for the Child Development Center. The role plans and supervises developmentally appropriate activities for young children and coordinates with other staff to implement the curriculum.

The position requires 19+ years old, either an Associate Degree in Early Childhood (or Gateways Level 4) or two years of related college credits, and 1,000 hours of child development experience.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 19 years old.
• Associate degree in Early Childhood or Gateways Level 4 credential or two years of related college credits in child care/development.
• At least 1,000 hours of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center.

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for planning a developmentally appropriate curriculum or program for young children.
• Plans lessons in cooperation with other early childhood associates and submits written lesson plans regularly.
• Assists with supervision of student workers, work-study students and interns assigned to the teacher’s group.
• Plans appropriate playground activities reflecting the curriculum and ensures a sound instructional atmosphere and safe environment.
• Participates in in-service training and workshops to further professional development (minimum 20 hours per year).
• Maintains cooperative relationships with the Director and staff to keep the Center curriculum reflective of the program.
